Aldeia das Artes – Meninos do Mussulo (The Arts Village – Kids from Mussulo)  began teaching vocational training courses on 10 March 2014 with support from the Ministry of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security (MAPTSS). In total, 54 youths will benefit from this initiative by taking occupational courses qualifying them for Food, Technician, Information Technology, Office Work and Fashion related careers.

Currently, 29 youths have already completed their vocational training courses and 16 will complete them by the end of November.

These youths will also be given the opportunity to take a Trainer Course taught by MAPTSS, which will qualify them to train and monitor other youths on Mussulo Island (Angola). To achieve this goal, training “Jangos” will be built for each course at the premises of Aldeia das Artes.

“For the opportunity I was given, I would like to thank ALDEIA DAS ARTES, the Angolan company CONSAÚDE which is the driving force and manager of Aldeia das Artes, and my benefactors and colleagues. In truth, I can’t find the words to describe my immense happiness. It all seems like a dream but, as Fernando Pessoa said, ‘a man is as large as his dream’”. These were the words of José Batista Gerónimo, the best student in the first training stage, who completed the information technology course with a grade of 18 (maximum of 20).

The words of José Batista Gerónimo emphasise the importance of this initiative and motivate everyone involved with the Aldeia das Artes – Meninos do Mussulo project to continue the ongoing work to help build the future of children and youths of Mussulo Island.
